General Manager Heather Burt
Heather believes that food choices are a vehicle for positive change and community-building. She has spent her career working to promote local foods, healthy cooking, and sustainable agriculture. She originally worked for Rising Tide in 1996 and was happy to return as the Human Resources Coordinator in September 2016. In January 2019, Heather was hired from her extended role as Acting General Manager to the full role as the General Manager. From that original summer working as a cashier and stocker, Heather’s entrepreneurial spirit led her to found C.U.R.E. (Compassion Unlimited Respecting Everyone), a nonprofit that worked with vegetarian and vegan youth as well promoting other personal choices that reflect a commitment to sustainability and community. During this time, she offered cooking classes through local adult education programs and presented workshops statewide. Desiring a more business-oriented approach to promoting healthy food, Heather opened Tikvah Cafe and Catering in Boothbay Harbor. Tikvah offered international vegan cuisine using local ingredients as much as possible. Needless to say it was a concept before its time for this area. Heather left Maine for four years to hone her skills in food and business and spent time working for Trader Joe’s and Turtle Island Foods (Tofurky) in Oregon. She returned in 2007 and since that time has spearheaded the creation of the FARMS Community Kitchen as the FARMS Executive Director and was the Founding Coordinator for the Lincoln County Food Council. Heather lives in Edgecomb with her daughter and a menagerie of animals.
