Rising Tide Co-op Mask Update – 5/21/2021
As always, thank you for your ongoing support of the Co-op and, in turn, the more than 300 Maine farmers and vendors whose products we carry. This last year has been very challenging and I know that many of you have experienced losses, both of loved ones and time with family and friends. It has been traumatic, yet there have been the silver linings. I have seen community members come together around supporting each other and there has been an increase in most people’s tolerance for change. Again, we find ourselves in a time of transition and I ask for your patience as we find our way to best meet the needs of our community.
Governor Mills issued an Executive Order yesterday, May 19, 2021, that will repeal the mandated use of face masks indoors except for people in school and day care settings. This repeal of the mask mandate will go into effect on Monday, May 24th. This came just five days after the original decision to align with new guidance from the U.S. CDC that would allow fully vaccinated people to be indoors without face coverings. Rising Tide Co-op has diligently followed the CDC and State mandates and guidelines throughout the Covid pandemic, and we will continue to align with the CDC’s recommendations. As of Monday, fully vaccinated individuals can shop without masks or face coverings, though we request and encourage you to continue to wear a mask for the safety of our broader community. This will be an individual’s best personal protection in the Co-op as well as other venues.
Rising Tide staff, many of them already fully vaccinated, will continue to wear masks until further notice. In addition, the Plexiglas barriers at the registers will remain in place, as well as sanitizer options throughout the store. Disposable masks are available at the registers if requested. We take the safety of our customers and staff very seriously and are navigating this sudden policy change with as much care and respect for a wide range of perspectives as we can. We will continue to follow the case numbers in Lincoln County and Maine and will adjust again if necessary.
For those people for whom these changes do not feel safe, please consider using our Curbside service.
With gratitude and hope,
If you are not vaccinated and are unable to wear a mask,
