Rising Tide Co-op’s Mission Statement:
“A cooperative business dedicated to being a trusted community-based resource
for high-quality, natural, sustainable foods & goods.”

About Us

Rising Tide Co-op is a cooperatively-owned natural grocery serving Midcoast Maine since 1978. We’re located in the historic village of Damariscotta, at the gateway to the Pemaquid peninsula and just 25 minutes away from Boothbay Harbor. We support more than 300 local farmers and producers, ensuring that our food dollars stay in our community. You can find them featured within our Co-op walls and we are proud to support these fine folks while running a successful business.

Everyone is welcome to shop at Rising Tide!

We’re open 7 days a week. We have the best produce displays in town, featuring fresh local and organic fruits and veggies. We carry fresh local and natural meats, a wide variety of bulk foods, grocery items, dairy, wine and beer, and high-quality vitamin and body care products. Our deli features soups, sandwiches, baked goods and grab & go salads and meals.

From our beginnings as a small, committed group of people banding together as a buying club in order to access healthy, whole foods at fair prices, we’ve maintained our focus on providing high-quality, natural, and sustainable foods and goods to our community.

Today we’re 5,000+ member-owners strong and growing.

Rooted in our Community

In the early 1970s, a group of individuals from the Damariscotta area established a food buying club that was located in a shed on Round Top Farm. In 1978, the club reorganized as a cooperative nonprofit corporation in the State of Maine called Rising Tide, Inc. and began a storefront with 800 square feet of shop space up the hill from its original location. In 1999, Rising Tide moved to a 4,500 square foot space in the Coastal Marketplace on Business Route 1. Since the 1999 relocation, membership has grown from 475 members to more than 1,900 in 2008. Starting in 2007 Rising Tide looked into buying the Strong Chevrolet building across the street. We held a Member-Owner Loan Drive in 2008 and raised over $400,000. We purchased the building in 2008, and after extensive renovations moved into our beautiful new store in July 2009.
